That's a good enough reason for me to want to keep as many SVTs and pre-98 SEs in running condition as possible.

1) Better gas mileage 2) Better Performance 3) MUCH less expensive to repair and generally more robust than an Auto! If you guys knew what is going on in an Auto trans you would see why it has been called "one of the most complicated pieces of machinery on the planet". It is far more complicated than the inside of your engine! 4) Requires the driver to *gasp* PAY ATTENTION to his driving as he has to match engine speeds, gearchanges and clutch timing, etc. ~ That reason alone should make it required learning in Driver's ed classes! God knows we need more drivers who pay attention to their driving in this country instead of yapping on the cellphone sipping a latte! Anyone who claims to enjoy driving and take pride in their driving skills should be a good manual transmission driver.

I'm with the Mtx people If you drive a Atx in a sporty car you think is fast, cool, good on gas, fun to drive, or good in traffic your worng 1. a car with an auto might be fast, but a stick of the same car is almost always faster 2. Being lazy is cool now huh? 3. sticks are better on gas, because you can control the revs 4. don't be gay, an auto is boring 5. I like taffic, I roll back at people and freak them out, like my car is broken or something
I highly disslike autos, when driving one I'm always reaching to shift or i nail the brakes with my left foot. "flooring it" is just to easy, I'll take my Unlazy Mtx over your soccer mom Atx(mini van) any day
98' CSvt, Sold to many problems to deal with
I traded it in ford Focus... I hate it

I can drive stick pretty well, considering I learned off stick. And moved to Automatic.

That point is just dumb ... you're not freaking people out because they think your car is broken ... they just think 'Jackass can't drive a stick' ... I know I do!

I can't think of a mid-size sedan with over 200hp, manual, and being Ford or GM, and also in the cheapo price range. Too bad GTPs aren't manuals.
Don't know if this was mentioned yet(didn't read the whole thread), but Gen1 and Gen2 SHO Taurus came in standard(225 HP)and you can pick up a 95 for less then $5K.

I can't drive a manual yet and I'm a awesome driver, I about outran a full sized Chevy pickup in the snow(he was riding my ass and got in the other lane on a 4 lane road in town, I was showing him up)in my dad's 02 Ford Ranger(Auto of course)and I stayed in 2wd up until 30MPH then I kicked it into 4 wheel high then gave it more gas and left the idiot.

Is there much stop and go driving where you live? Automatic transmissions make stop and go traffic easy. I've been stuck in Atlanta traffic during rush hour and I know if I was driving a car with a manual transmission my legs would have been worn out.

I guess you get used to it ... there was more stop-go traffic in places I worked in the UK than you could shake a stick at ... it never phased me to be honest. I must admit I like stop-go even less in an automatic ... I hate the excessive braking compared for speed control as opposed to using the MTX to control the speed. There's nothing worse than creeping along slowly for a mile with your foot on the brake pedal most of the time.

I live in the middle of Atlanta, and experiance the traffic quite often in my SVT. Driving a manual in traffic does not bother me at all, but i guess i am just used to it since i have never owned an auto. As far as wearing your legs out, you may want lift some weights if your leg gets worn out putting a clutch in and out...
