When I was growing up, having a car with a stick shift was a sign of poverty.....only poor people couldn't afford the $800 an automatic transmission cost. If you could afford only ONE option, it was always an automatic transmission. Most of us baby boomers still feel the same way. The last I knew, the vast majority of new Corvettes were sold with automatics. I drove a 5 speed stick shift in Capri's and BMW's for 22 years, but when I bought the Mystique, I decided that I was going back to automatics. Don't regret it one bit.

Driving an automatic isn't laziness, if one knows how to drive a manual. Refusing to learn to drive a manual at all is, IMO. Forcing one's spouse to buy an automatic out of said laziness should be punishable by... Oh, a sentence of life driving a little two-stroke s***box with a three speed manaul.

Less intial cost, better fuel economy, better durability (generally). Seems like a no brainer to me.

Maybe if that's laziness, driving a car is laziness. So maybe we should all walk every where.
Actually driving everywhere IS lazy, and some people point as a large part of people being so fat in this country.

5 choices ... 3 manufacturers. That's pretty slim pickings in my opinion, especially when you consider how options quickly rack up the pricing too.
I'm a little lost about where this thread is going.... I mean I can name many more cars...all compacts like the Focus st/svt, mazda3, srt-4, Sentras, corolla XRS, all the sport coupes... basically any car with any sport in it. American manufacturers shy away from sticks in their sport sedan offerings under 35k.

I think the point was, that there are few and far between choices for affordable cars offering a V6 option and mtx. And that the selection is narrowing. Thats my take on it anyway....

That's more or less it. It's the lack of 'family sedans' with a V6 ... you know; avergae, everyday cars like the tour. I personally want a family sedan, 4 doors that the wife, and the kids and I can jump into. Something that's not going to have the wife bending me ear over ... or the kids parking into trees on the highways. When you start going up the ladder in terms of price/speed/quality/etc then yes there are manual tranmissions, but only in relatively expensive cars.
Basically ... if I were to go out today and try to buy the same car that my Contour was 7 years ago I'm limited in choice for manual's. If I want a manual ... I have to 'downgrade' my car to something smaller and less 'family orientated', or alternatively 'upgrade' quite a low ... Audi's and so forth are not cheap.
