whatever, for the prices these things are selling at, i'd play pretend...

BMW 5 & 7 (to an extent 3 series too) are too expensive. Same for the Acura TSX & Jag. Impreza WRX is a shade high for my liking. Saab too expensive, and wasn't there that thing about them possibly closing the plant.
Leaves us with (affordable in my eyes):
Nissan Maxima Nissan ALtima Acura TL Acura RSX Mazda 6
5 choices ... 3 manufacturers. That's pretty slim pickings in my opinion, especially when you consider how options quickly rack up the pricing too.

are you relegating yourself to new cars. because you can get many of the cars i listed with low miles for the same price as a new Mazda 6.
but if you want new, go for the Mazda 6. better balance than the Altima 3.5 SE.

from here i have to narrow the field even further. i think the maxima is ugly. too many people around here have altimas and i don't want a microscopic 2dr like the rsx.
disregarding price the bmws and wrx are still out because i see too many of them around here. saabs are ugly. the tsx is a 4 banger which i don't want either so thats another one off the list. the tl i could live with and the mazda i could live with but for the price i would rather keep the tour as a second vehicle, build it any way i choose and have the truck i want while spending $40,000 or less...the price of a well appointed 3 series. the jag i like though.

I must admit that I think the Nissan's are ugly too, not my preference at all. RSX = 2dr ... I ignored that fact, so it comes off the 'family sedan' list.
Ultimately I'm left with the Mazda 6 as my only 'real' choice, being picky and all. It's lucky that I actually really do like the car (you'd be nuts not to), otherwise I'd be screwed!

That said, I believe that it should become mandatory to be able to drive a manual transmission to get your license. No excuses, except for physical impairment.

Sadly true.. in many countries driving an automatic is seen as lazy.

I'm comparing what is available ... it would be nice to have something new in the next couple of years. Don't forget too, this is our soruce of used cars for tomorrow. Think of the selection that will be available in ten years time.

I've never noticed anyone saying it was lazyness ... in the UK Automatics are seen as being for women (stereotyping) and those who can't drive. Then again if you have a UK licence for an automatic, you can't drive a stick. There you are severely limited by not being able to drive stick.
