simple fix for that is to solvent clean the wires in the aera of the pierce, then place a dab of RTV over he hole in the wire, and it will be as good as new.

Another method is to use the same safety pins, cut the point off the pin with a pair of wire cutters, and use the cut end of the pin to back probe the connector, or stick the pin into the back of the connector through the same hole the wire enters through, this way you can still get the connection you need wothout piercing the wire insulation.
