Do you notice it as you're driving?
I've got the same thing that started happening after a touchless carwash (coincidence?), although the whine goes up as the revs do and then at about 3k rpm it goes away.
I've replaced the idler pulley and the tensioner assembly with no luck (mine whine's on the passenger side too).
My next step is to remove the belt too and see if it continues ... might end up being p/s pump as has been mentioned??
