To bad the Captian got canned for running the sub into an underwater mountian that was not on the charts. It's truly amazing the sub even made it back to port.

They're damn lucky the hull didn't pop

Wouldn't some crew have been in the sonar dome? Maybe not..I know little of modern submarine design.

Being pressurized fast enough to pop your head under hundreds of meters of water..is not the way to go..

They were damn lucky, but those boats are also built damn strong. I want to say I read somewhere that there *might* have been negligence on the part of the skipper, i.e. there was known shallow areas in the vicinity of the transit and the speed of the vessel was too high to react to uncertainty in the charts. But who knows...the inquiry will probably take quite some time.

Damn....

Wonder what their insurance deductable is.

I can't belive they canned the guy. If anyones ever been in a sub (i have once), y'know it isn't like driving a car. You HAVE TO rely on electronics to tell you where you are at. What a shame though. But damn.. I'm aamazed it made it back, especially with all the pressure those go under.
