Umm it's a regression curve...Those points on the graph are probably standard deviations or limits, or something...not actual data points...Someone should do this with minitab or spss and get all kinds of statstical data for it.

Do duratecs really get that bad of gas mileage? The only time I ever checked my mpg was for a week when I drove my car really hard, and even then it was above 24mpg. I have a drive that is a bit over 200 miles and when I drive fairly close to the speed limit, I have half a tank left when I get to my destination.

My SVT rarely got above 20.
Your zetec is also aided by the longer drive... avg fuel economy rises on longer drives b/c the engine has more time to warm up.

I've done that on every new car I've ever owned as well as kept service records on everything from light bulbs to washer fluid. Of course that all went out the window on the Contour when the 2.5 spun the rod bearings... My '96 S-10SS sold for $2k over book and my '95 Neon sold for $1.5K over book because I had such complete records and took care of the vehicles. I also sold an 89 Dodge Lancer ES Turbo for about a grand more than book because the first owner kept great records and I continued from there with my own. It pays to be anal!!!

I used a xy scatter plot and picked the one with the curved lines
yes the mystique is for a zetec and the contour is a duratec
the contour is down alittle but it was averaging about 24 mpg, the mystique was around 27 mpg until the cold weather

Thanks!
when I made mine I just used average and max min functions to call the data out, that way all I have to do is keep increasing the range of data and it will automatically get the data

all the duratec we have get about the same milage, mine has gone down over the summer as I made intake and exhaust modifications and thus got on the car more
as for my zetec I normally get around 200 a half tank, the more highway driving the better it is
at least for the two of us that posted graphs we are in fairly urban parts of CT, I am 40 minutes from NYC, and so there is alot more stop and go driving then say being in the mid west or down south were things are more open, this means there is less cruising because of stop and go which of cause is bad for mpg
I hit 34 mpg on my zetec driving from pittsburgh home
the two points that are high for my contour where when I was in NH, and did alot of highway driving, plus my car being from NH seems to really like NH gas over CT gas for some reason, or so it seems as I always get better milage

Haha.. you too? My gas mileage will fluctuate like the pupils of a teenager in a aerosol can plant. One day I may average around 29-33 mpg and the next.. 13-16. ANd its all similar driving habbits. Ahhhh... who cares... it's just money money money.
