Engine?
Year?
Miles?

There are a number of similar problems discussed at length in these forums.

Ideally you should change the transmission fluid if it is due. This alone may fix the problem.

Next you can change the TSS for around $40, this could also be the problem.

Internal problems like the pump or valve body will cost you much more.

Of note - if the PCM gets confused about engine conditions it can shift funny. In this case you should also notice a loss of power or engine bucking, you may also but not necessarily get a code.

Good suggestions Roger.

I would also STRONGLY suggest a transmission cooler. You can have one installed for less than $200 (or DIY for under $100) and it may not only solve this problem, but keep your tranny running like new for the rest of the life of the car.

I have NEVER had a tranny failure in any of my cars equipped with a cooler - even vehicles I used to tow with. Any trans expert will tell you the #1 killer of an automatic is HEAT. Keep that in check & you should be able to run your tranny for 1/2 million miles. I exagerrate, but you get the idea.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
