I just want to know you guys opinions on paint jobs from Maaco. Any personal accounts good or bad are welcomed. I'm getting my car painted and I'm not sure if I should go to Maaco or find somebody locally.

Maaco uses cheap paint. They don't prep properly either. I have a friend who had her car repainted by Maaco, and it looked awful in two years. First off, they did a crappy job. There was overspray on everything. Secondly, they didn't pull out any dents or anything before they painted. Thirdly, the red paint faded to pink within 2 years time. I would find somewhere else, Maaco is so cheap for a reason.

I've seen macco paint jobs that lasted years.. and still looked good to this day, it all depends on how much money you got...

If you go to Maaco, remove all rubber trim, badges, lights, glass and interior trim yourself.
Personally, I struggle to imagine a MY98 car that is worse than a paint job from Maaco. Have you tried polishing it?
Are you "restoring," or going for a custom look?

I think it all depends on what you want. If you just want a cheapy paint job to sell it, go Maaco. I did when I wanted to sell my 1991 Mustang 5.0. It worked great.

I recently had my 95 repainted by Maaco. It was rearended and damaged. I discussed it with my Auto Body guy, and we agreed it was a good idea for a car I only planned to keep for another couple of years.
I had the car fully prepped by my Auto Body guy, and then painted by Maaco. Don't let Maaco do any of your prep or body work. That's where they get you.
We were very happy with the paint job. Seemed to be in good condition, and lasted no problems for the 6 months I had the car before the engine died. Even my Auto body guy recommended them for cheap paintjobs on a car you only plan to keep for a couple years. You can't beat the price.
However, if you're looking for a paint job to last 5 or more years, I'd probably get it done right.

What is exactly is wrong with your paint? I know pictures don't tell the true story, but I couldn't notice any defects.

what happened was that macco I believe never sanded my car down, they just sprayed over the stock paint. So now I took my car to the body shop because I wanted to get my front bumper re-painted due to heavy chipping, the guy at the body shop along with his men clearly stated that the car had been re-painted by macco, they could tell by the shine, it was a fuzzy shine, not clear glossy. You can also now notice the macco paint chipping off corners like around the door ding guards (thats why I cant knauberize at the moment) and such, you just hafta see my car in person to see what I'm talking about. I hafta polish my car after each wash so that I get some shine its just a crappy job that I wish no one else would do to such a nice car, especially black (my favorite color) For a re-re-paint job on my car with complete porper sanding and all, I'm looking at $3000-$5000 that I don't have.
