I want to buy the SVT exhaust but I am not sure how much of the system I need. Should I get the catalytic converter and everything behind it? Do I need the downpipe? Do i only need the system behind the cat? On top of that, what connectors/flanges would I need to buy to make everything fit, or would a shop have all the connectors if i had them do it? Thanks for the help

Do a search of my past posts, I've asked this question then answered it a while back.
Short version, the Focus oil pan and our oil pan has the exhaust channel on opposite sides so the downpipe won't line up. Then if you tried to swap oil pans also you'd have to swap the oil pick up. Then there's a cross member that would interfere and not line up.
Won't work. It would be easier to buy a made for the Cougar/Contour Zetec racing header.
EDIT: Did you mean the Contour SVT exhaust? If so, never mind, I don't know.

The parts you'll need are everything AFTER the main cat (a.k.a. cat-back). You'll keep your manifold, & everything should bolt up at the front. Now the back is slightly more challenging.
Get the SVT exhaust of your choice, and take it to a shop. They'll install it for under $100 most likely. All they have to do is add a hanger for the passenger side muffler, and MAYBE one under the middle of the car. No other welding if you get the exhaust in one piece.
The muffler comes with a heat shield on it, so there will be no issue with fuel/brake lines & such.
Honestly, I've never done one myself, but I've read a lot of posts about it.
Enjoy.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

everything after the cat you will need
a hanger for the passenger side exhaust is needed and about a foot or more of pipe at the front of the exhaust so that it is long enough to reach the end of the car.

lol, I DID mean a contour SVT exhaust, although what you were thinking would have been a good solution if it worked. Thanks for the input

I was seraching around the archives and found a lot of good info on adapting the SVT exhaust, but I dont understand one issue raised. Another member asked about the benefits of an SVT exhaust on the Zetec, and one response said you might lose some power becuase of it. So my question is..
How is that possible? I though eliminating backpressure was always a good thing resulting in more power at the wheels. Am I wrong?
