IMO, I feel that the Contour SVT is the most well balanced car out there. The pre 98 se w/o chrome strip comes in second. I would love to get my hands on a t-red SVT with the midnight blue like somtime early next year. As stated before black looks the best when polished and waxed but gets to dirty to quick for me. i like porn.

Over-pimped SVT?

The SVT bodykit transforms an otherwise boring and slightly dorky lookng car into something nice looking. Gives it that nice road-hugging stance.

The Pre-98s have the generic looking jellybean styling that demonstrates everyhing wrong with styling in the 90's. PRE-98 SE's are nice looking.

Sorry, I would never have considered a Contour if it were not an SVT. Even then, I had to drive it before I was convinced enough to buy it.

When people ask what kind of car I drive, my answer is always "SVT Contour".

Not trying to step on any toes, just my personal opinion.

Yeah me 2. Non-SVTs are CRAP!

Nah. Just ATX's.

I have to admit, if there'd been an SVT in '96, I'd have had to consider it. I considered the SHO Taurus, though, but I thought it was too expensive, along with the Nissan Maxima SE, which had been on my wish list for a long time. Anyway, I was not interested in any Taurus that wasn't a SHO.

Anyway, looks-wise, 1) SVT, 2) Early SE (close second), 3) who cares after that? The car looks awkward and top-heavy without side-skirts. Tall bubble roofline needs more meat on the lower flanks for balance. And those narrow steelies with the skinny tires make the body look bloated. I'm not saying the cars are bad, but there are some design issues with this car that the extra bodywork really fixed.

Actually, I saw a GL yesterday with no body add-ons at all. It had the early 7-spoke "SE" wheels, though, and it made a huge difference in its appearance.

i think my 98.5 SE Sport is the best looking that i've seen. i thought that when i went to go look at the car. it has the E1 wheels and looks great with them. i like my SE side skirts. the SVTs body kit are a little over the top in my opinion, tho i'd love to drive one. enough people stare at my car as it is, and its all stock. when i first got it last year, i was waxing it outside my house and a 10 year old boy walked by with his mother. my car was parked next to my mom's 03 land rover discovery, dad's 02 Audi A8, and company '04 Accord EX. the kid said "mommy, thats a REALLY nice car. i like that people dont know what my car is and that it can get comments like that, especially seeing as we paid 15 times as much for the A8

I like the looks of non-SVT Contours best. Just my opinion, but those big ol' SVT side skirts don't do it for me. And SVT bumpers look so massive and heavy. Non-SVTs look leaner and cleaner.

SVT skirts and bumpers do make SVTs look lower. But if you lower a non-SVT, you don't need extra bodywork hanging down to make it look lower.

I don't happen to have a picture of an example, but the best looking Contours I have seen are lowered non-SVTs without any additional bodywork (no skirts, splitters, air dams, spoilers, hood scoops or any other ghetto crap) stuck on them.

The basic lines of the Contour are really good. Nice flow to the beltline, visually balanced front to back, graceful curves of the fender lines, overall very sleek and clean. Anything that breaks up or adds to those basic lines is probably not a good thing.

I wish I had this collection in my garage. In all honesty I find SVT's with the pre98 trunklid swap without a spoiler, and lowered, will pwn all others out there.

btw, isn't the blue car Lance Kinley's Contour? Been a while but I could be wrong.

You have SVT wheels and SE side skirts. So more like a SE.
