exactly!
the program IMO just seems too basic to properly design a compliceted piece. simple pieces might be ok
the idea about importing from a more advanced program sounds good though

You don't just draw a few shapes. You actually have to input the measurements of those shapes into the program. So unless your measurements are off, everything should be good.
Just keep in mind, you never just start cutting on an expensive material before doing some prototyping yourself first.
After going through both audio tutorials last night, I really like the program. Even if you never order anything from the company, this program alone could teach people alot about fabrication or just general mechanical design.

Agreed. You can make very complex 3d images, just like in CAD and it only takes a few minutes to learn the basics. I designed circular press fit gauge surrounds for 3rd gen Trans Ams in about 20 minutes including a prototyping price quote of one surround milled from cheap plastic stock (before trying an expensive 6061 aluminum mistake). You can go on to make gears (hint hint for anyone still wanting sunroof gears that could be made from metal instead of composite), complex mounting brackets, for oh I don't know, say a solid engine torque brace or adjustable rear suspension parts. Arm yourself with a couple of dial calipers/indicators and you can make some high tech stuff with pretty tight clearances... Better than the home lathe tools on the drill press I know a few of us are guilty of...

In fact, here are the 3d renderings of the gauge rings that will eventually be made of polished aluminum...

Yup, it is a really easy ring of polished metal (prototype will be cheap plastic). Press fit into the plastic portion of the stock TA dash. A machinist in the UK posted pics of his that he made in his off work hours and everyone went nuts on the thirgen.org forums. He didn't want to make any for us, so...
The E-machinist software has prebuilt gears in it that you just change the measurements on to make the gears whatever size you want... The complex part would be getting pitch right, at least for a newbie like me.
