Pretty much how you described it above. And the "poll" comes from ppl betting money i guess. put them together and you get "block poll". Just the way its always been around here but the same game none the less.

Im in the block pole aka squares game for the SB too. Put $20 on it. Hopefully I win somethin

Obviously people who don't know what "squares" are, are not football fans nor do they associate with football fans otherwise they would know. Christ, the old ladies at my old job all knew what they were because to them it was just like playing lotto and a way for them to slightly give a crap about the game that is going to monopolize their homes for an entire day despite being a 3 hour game

Your logic is not so obvious. You can be a fan of the game without knowing a think about squares.

Perhaps you could say that people who don't know what squares are are not gamblers. That's closer, but still not exact.

Perhaps you can just say they aren't squares

im not a fan of pigskin but I do know the old "football pool" as Ive always heard it referred to. as in, people pooling money together. in the many schools Ive worked at this has always been very popular. i would often be the one running it cuz everyone else was too lazy to go around and solicit the interest from people.

maybe we could do one here? anyone feel like getting one started? say for $5 a square, divide the pot evenly amongst the quarters. $125 per winner. can collect the $ in paypal. im not a gambler, even when i go to vegas, but i LOVE superbowl/world series/nba finals pools.

my friends dad was in a $100 a square pool
the LA Times has been doing one for years that is something like $365 a square and does it so squares next to the winners also win money.

Take your attitude somewhere else. Consider this your warning.

What are you talking about a warning? I wasn't even using a harsh tone, and if it seemed to come off that way I apoligize. If your referring to the "trout slap" take it off the graemlins if you don't want it to be used. People obviusly didnt know what the post "squares" meant at the begiining which is why I said "block poll" to perhaps inform the others. Every where i've been in the North East its referred to as a block poll, I tought everyone knew that...guess not. You guys need to relax w/ your warnings.

As Sigma said, Google shows no reference to Block Poll. Even refining it to Superbowl Block Poll does not help. Superbowl Squares, on the other hand supports the much more widely accepted term. Incidentaly, I have many friends and family members in New England - none have heard the term Block Poll.

I will not relax with my warnings. My referrnce was not to the use of "trout slap" graemlin. It was to your short CEG history of flames, typing in all caps as if to yell at someone and finally being incorrect in you assertion that Block Squares is the correct term when clearly Squares is much more widely known and accepted.

As a new member of this site, the onus is upon you to learn what is and is not appropriate. I intend to curb petty BS and flame wars BEFORE they become a hassle. Again, I suggest you read the rules, review what you have posted here and in the football thread and then YOU relax.

The Mods, Admins and a large percentage of the Members of this site have worked hard to maintain the CI Forum, and the CEG site as a whole, as a place of maturity and courteous dialogue. There have been several bans in recent months to insure this. Its a warning - take it for what it is and think about what you post.

What he's referring to is not a "Block Poll" but rather a "Block POOL".

And, yes, a Google does find a few hits for "Block Pool" and "Super Bowl" -- although not even close to as many as it finds for "Super Bowl Squares".

Thank you.

Did I use the correct term? Yes. Is it wrong b/c different parts of the country use different terminology? No. Thank you Trapps.

p.s. as i mentioned earlier ppl didn't know what squares meant or what to use them for so to try to INFORM people I gave an alternate term for the game. And in now way was I using caps to "yell" as you internet moderatores tend to assume it means. I was using it to emphasise...you know just how i did the same thing on the word INFORM above, but then again you prob. think i was yelling that too.

Well, you really didn't.

You referred to it numerous times as a "Block Poll" and even once as "Block Pole" but never by it's correct name of "Block Pool". There's a pretty big difference between "Poll", "Pole", and the correct terminology of "Pool". It took me quite a while to figure out exactly what the heck you were talking about -- but then I'd never heard of a "Block Pool" either. I guess if I had, I might have been able to correct your spelling earlier.
