You cut the shafts down so they still fit the holes, but do not protrude into the LIM, and JB weld it into the LIM. You leave the back one loaded up with the spring so the IMRC still thinks it is opening and closing the secondaries. No CEL if the IMRC thinks it is doing it's job...
