But they were a Super Bowl caliber team long before that 'overall package'. He was the system.

Statistically speaking, there is no argument.

When he does it for a team like Cincinatti or Arizona.

LOL, I don't think Montana couldn't have won rings with these teams this year. And I know Montana wouldn't have won jack with the squad SF put on the field for 04.

Agreed.

But in intangibles, getting it done? Montana.

Trent Dilfer could have led that team to the Super Bowl. They were unbelieveably stacked in all facets of the game. Not winning more than 1 super bowl was a shame.

That is why for the first decade of his career, he had only one more TD than he had interceptions. It's amazing how the stats became Hall of Fame like right around the time that Davis and their defense started dominating. 4 games over .500 for a 6 year stretch between playoff viability.

Is that not the major reason that some critics say he isn't the number 1 QB of all time?

that is the ONLY criticism I have seen. Personally, in a playoff game, there is not another QB I would rather have.

Ben is obviously a much better QB than any mentioned. Right Chill1110?

Wow, must be a really classy guy if he quits crying when he gets on a better team.

Where did this notion of him being a crybaby come from? He was a quiet, go about his business player for his first 6 years. Then when he had a bit of an injury and rudi johnson started to emerge and Cinci was basically going to dick him around in favor of a younger back, he spoke up. HE was far from a crybaby and he definately came to work and did his job game in and game out.

I had asked for numbers for a comparison. I wouldn't go as far as to say that they aren't in the same league, the rushing numbers are similar and while paytons bears teams early in his career werent that good, dillon's bengals teams were even worse. Payton was hands down a better pass catching back
