Yesterday I cleaned my EGR passages out, and also cleaned the throttle body. I disconnected the spring under the cables and forgot to reconnect it when I was finished. I then drove around a little while and noticed that the throttle response was great. While I was driving and noticing this, I remembered that I forgot to reconnect the spring. This is why the throttle response was so good. So when I got back home I reconnected the spring.
The question is what does that spring do? I liked the added throttle response, but the spring is there for a reason. What is the reason?
Thanks.

What I would like to know is, if it is ok to drive with the spring disconnected? What will happen if this is done?

I've cleaned my TB and UIM many times but I'm drawing a blank on what spring you're talking about. The only one I can think of is the 1 that controls the throttle body plate and it has 2 cables connected to it from what I can remember. Did you mean you forgot to re-connect one of those?

The first cable would be the throttle.. the second, the cruise control. (f the two cables on the TB bracket are what you are referring to..)

I think this spring is only on ATX TBs, as my Sport has one, but the SVT does not. For a long time I was missing the spring myself. I replaced it when trying to track down some drivability issues, but it turned out the spring had nothing to do with it.

I thought I heard that, that spring is there to make sure the throttle doesn't stay open. Is this true? If it is not true, I would love to not have it on there. Much more responsive when not present.

I guess I will run without the spring for a while and see what happens. Like I said before, the throttle response is greatly improved when the spring is not present. The only problem is that the accel. pedal is a little more touchy.(The car likes to rush forward).

My guess is that spring is there for a reason, the most logical one being to return the throttle back to zero. I had trouble with the fuel injector hanging up on my Taurus, and I must tell it is mighty unpleasant trying to "brake down" a car that is trying to run away from you!
