About 5 years ago most of the interior lights (specifically all of the dash lights) went out on my 96SE. Ford fixed it for free the very next day. It turns out there was a Factory Recall that addressed this. I seem to remember that it had something to do with the headlight/fog light switch or a relay associated with it.
The new part they put in was apparently beefier -- the problem has not reoccurred since.
