I plan to do this using Alpine's interface that connects it with Apline HUs. Im just curious if someone has done this, or other, and whatchya think...

im tired of carrying so many damned cds in my car and having them fall out of my cd visor thingie Shinobi style as I go screeching around corners its kinda funny actually but its not good for the cds.

so using an ipod im hoping i NEVER have to use cds in my car again! especially since my Alpine is starting to have issues reading discs. even brand new ones!

so anyone have any experience with this??

ps I sell Ipods on ebay and locally and wanted to do a GB but they said only contour-related items only.
so if anyone is interested in picking one up PM me. I will sell them to CEGers for an unofficial "GB" for $200 shipped! for Ipod mins. I have two pink, six silver, and seven blue! I also have one 40g photo ipod and some U2 editions. all brand new and sealed in the box

The only downside is you have to come up with some kind of craddle for the ipod. The unit is a hide away unit, and technically you could also hide your Ipod, but it doesnt come with any kind of mounting hardware.

Not an ipod, but I have my Rio Karma hooked up in my car. I run it via RCAs to my AUX input on my HU.

I have alpine and a iPod in my car. I use a universal cell phone mount from Radio Shack.

Here is a photo of mine compliments of hetfield.
My image host was lost some time ago.

Also, search the forum for "ipod" you will find lots of good info.

actually, i saw on ipodlounge.com in the ALpine interface thread, someone used the Ipod armor which is an aluminum(?) box that snugly holds/protects the pod. they mounted it using velcro. it looked realllly clean. im going to install it somewhere hidden so if some dick breaks into my car he wont even know i have one and take it. cuz that would suck. I plan to only take it out when i want to load more music. the only time i really listen to music is when im in the car so id like to be able to leave it in there ALL the time but i would if it was stolen; after transferring all that music onto it.

ive seen the Rio, Zen, and Sony but I didnt know if they have a bitchin interface for them like Ipod does. with the Alpine unit you can control your pod with your Alpine HU. I believe Stinger just made an inteface that will let you hook it up on any radio, including stock, and control it with your steering wheel buttons. another company makes this too which i saw on cardomain.

my radio does mp3 and i was thinking about doing that but im just sick of driving around using cds. theyve gotten scratched. many of my cdrs have started flaking apart.they fall out of the visor and I hate to fumble through books while driving. i like to carry A Lot of cds so i can pop anything in when i feel like it. thats why the ipod will be perfect for me.

As soon as I buy my contour from the parents (march 21) Im going to get an alpine HU in it, and i think im going to do the RCA's I like my mount for my ipod, check out my car domain page. Looking to make something a little cleaner, but this will do for now. The alpine HU is a good idea if you dont have a nice place to mount, but i like using the ipod instead, being able to see all the songs, not 2 lines on the HU. just my 2 cents
