My 98 Se cuts out at about 112mph. Is it possible to remove or bypass the speed limiter, and if so, is it safe to do?

You need a chip to do so, as well as making sure you have tires rated for the higher speed.

Either a superchip or Diablo sport chip will do it for you... -Nick

No a diablo chip won't do it for you. only Superchip will take off the limiter. Plus superchip is a much better chip in my opinion. It is def inmportant to have good tires if you get the limiter off.

Depends on your PCM code. The chip mfg. should be able to tell you if they can remove the limiter for your particular code when asked.

I know a way to get you over the 112mph without the use of a chip.

How's that?
I already have an Apexi SAFC and woul like to forgo the chip if possible (i may upgrade to a greddy e-manage which allows you to control the timing as well as the fuel).

You need to splice the ground wire of the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and hook them up to a switch so you can switch them on/off when you need to.

i was reading a couple days ago about diablo and superchips....diablo removing the speed limiter is an option with the chip....when i was reading about the superchip it said the same, that the speed limiter removal is optional...has this always been??? i thought that was part of the standard purchase

When I ordered my chip, I was told by Superchips that it was an option, so when I ordered mine through SP, Joe told me the removal of the limiter came standard with my PCM code. I don't know if this is common to some Contour's/Mystique's or just a few codes. If you do order a chip, make sure you do tell them you want the limiter removed, just to make sure. HTH.
