As humble as I usually am about what a salesperson will do to rectify the situation; I'd own him for what it's worth and get my money back.

In fact, I'd try to get the guy fired.

But that's just me. it's like selling you a dirtbike that's a model (or two) beloew what they're selling it as

in this state(wiscowsin)

the dealership can be bent over BIG TIME for saying it has the "SVT" package.

that is like selling a computer to someone, telling them it is a P4 3.6ghz processor, and it ends up being a Celeron 2.2.

You can get ALL of your money back or you can go to the dealership, get in the managers face and tell them what happens.

In this state, that place can be fined for the price of the car by the government AND they'll have to buy the car back.

I only know this because my friend use to be a used car salesmen and he had a booklet that says, NEVER tell the customer you do not know is not 100% true.

Well it's basically 'he says'/'she says.' I don't think you can fight it without proof. i.e. pricing being adjusted to the SVT trim rather than SE. Also, if the dealer had the sticker saying it was an SVT.

How do you not catch this man? Nothing personal, however when you buy a car from a dealer you get paper work that states your car and trim; how did you not notice that?

I'm with you. I've lost count of the people who show up here after they buy a car and start asking questions. I research my car purchases to death. First place I'd be is all over the internet arming myself with info. Knowledge is your best weapon against slick salesmen.

That said, good luck.

he can still fight it. proof is always better but he can still fight it. if the guy lies and says he never said that, then it will be tougher. you could still take the dealership to court and go his word against your word. A judge would just look at you and think, "why would this guy want to sue to return the car, claiming they told him something else?" the dealer might claim "buyer's remorse" but going in there and saying you were told this was the "well known" svt edition and you found it was not is very credible IMO. Most people wouldnt go through all the trouble, knowing the chances were slim, if it was a bs claim.

hopefully, the guy would own up to it, but i doubt it. car salesmen are slick.

if you like the car, since you DID buy it, just keep it then. If you are unhappy knowing there is a faster/sportier version out there, do something about it. but act fast, at least as far as contacting the dealership.

go in person, ask to speak to the general manager. take a witness with you. a co-worker or neighbor, someone who is "dis-interested" (unbiased).

dont want jump ahead, tell us what you think, since youve heard all this now.

well, that's all that really matters then.
maybe you can squeeze em for some money back and then use it to fix up your new tour.

they can just say "oops we didn't know, oh well".

You can't blame people though for not knowing, considering most don't even know what a regular Contour GL/LX/SE is.

Sounds like you have a Sport with V6, alloys, and a spoiler. Used car dealer figured 'SVT' was that stuff.

"dont forget that the (SVT) body is completely different."

How is that? The doors, hood, trunk, roof, fenders, and body shell are the same. Just the plastic add ons are different.
