I finally after 3 1/2 years got into my high schools metal shop class. :-) I talked with the instructor and he and I came to an agreement that I can bring in a hood and put what I would call functional hood scoops. I have come up with a few ideas on what I can do. One is build only an offset one on the driver side above the filter. I am also going to make an alumium heat shield for the conical filter. The only problem is, I think one offset one is going to look well stupid, simply put. If I make an even set the other opening will not really do anything but blow air over the coolant resivor. Which I guess could help. The other option is to do one middle one, but would this be effect as the one over air filter? I know it will flow air over the manifold, but I'm not running any endurance race. The thrid option is to do all three (one on either side and one in the middle). This could just become a major under taking with only about 40 minutes of work time each day. Any opinions would be great! And my thoughts on design are for a middle scoop, it would be a single bubble with maybe 2 support rods in the middle. The sides ones are possibly going to be 2 pipes running parallel to the roof. Thats harder to explain. If I get time I'll try to photo shop an example of my vision.

there was a guy on here with a setup on his hood which was right over the intercooler right above the battery... he had it setup so that the scoop looked cool and was very functional... You should do something like that, but set it up so it goes right over that cone air filter... that actually might aid in performance a little. Ahh but I cant for the life of me remember who had that setup, I just remember it was a black SVT.

Definately don't do all 3. If my understanding is correct, your MAF probably wont like air being forced in it. I may stand to be corrected, but look at the turbo or s/c setups and you'll note that the MAF is before the air pump. If you're goin' scoop, go with one in the middle. It looks symmetrical (aesthetics, I know) and you'll vent plenty of ambient air into your engine bay.

Agreed on the hood scoop in the middle.... Better looking and overall more air

I thought two small scoops or vents on each side might look nice...

did a quick Windows Paint mock up... lol looks kinda like crap, but gets the point across. I need to find a copy of photo shop pro bad!
let me know what you think! I'm actually on AIM too, so if you want give me a message there. Its usually on all the time.
Anyone is free to play with that pic too. Like maybe refine it more if your bored! haha tried a little bit of shadeing to give across more of shape. I wish I had better picture to start with, but right now, my poor car is being snowed on. So at earliest, tomorrow for a better picture.

ugly ugly ugly
i like the small conical vents that someone mocked up. Something in the middle would be good, but i dont think the one mocked up looks anything great
