Be sure to check BAT for sidemarker lights too, as they have the OEM lights from the Mondeo. They are oval and blend in better with the car's lines than a square-ish light, IMO. Their amber light is OEM, but the clear and smoked ones are aftermarket and the quality isn't quite as good. I originally bought the clear ones, but ended up ordering the amber ones 'cause the clear were kinda cheap-looking. The bulb color was really lame in the clear ones as well, although a new bulb easily fixed that.

As a side note, the sidemarker lights on Steve Saleen's supercar at SEMA looked exactly like the Mondeo lights. Closer to reality, the sidemarker lights on the wide rear fenders of dually F-series trucks may be the same light as well. I haven't looked closely yet, but seeing one on the road, the proportions were pretty close...

Side note two: The Mondeo lights use the same connector as many of Ford's fuel injectors. A friend gave me an old (early 90's?) Mustang injector harness and the connectors snapped right on! Cut the connector off, tore it apart and soldered new wires onto the terminals, reassembled it -- viola! Spiffin' waterproof connector assembly!

Is it really neccessary to solder the resitiors and diodes in, or can they be put in then taped and heat shrink wrapped?

So you're talking about just like the front side parking lights on most GMs... I noticed they do that on nearly all of them.

Simon (original owner) put APC dual filament sidemarkers on this car. They come on with the parking lights and flash with the turn signals. From what I saw, there were 2 resistors (with ceramic insulation) and a diode.

He also used the niteshades (or similar) on them, they look very nice.

I'm pretty sure the resistors are there just to keep the lights from flashing fast, right?

No, the resistors make the sidemarkers glow at half-bright when the parking lamps are on. Dual filament lamps are something else altogether and require different wiring.

what kind or size diode do you need? Not very savy w/ kinda stuff so I dunno if they come in watts, ohms,(or don;t come in either) and you need a certian type?

Thanx

Diodes are specified by two values, max voltage and max current. The max voltage is just the car voltage, so anything above 15 volts is fine. The sidemarker uses a 194 lamp, which is typically 5-10 watts, which means at max the bulb will draw about 0.8 amps (I = P/V => 10/12 (idle voltage)). So anything above that is fine.
