ok....i've done the archive search. i found and have printed off the relevant posts re installing side markers (thanks particularly to louis wang for his "a6 marker lights install" from way back in 2002!).

understanding that this will be my first ever venture into auto wiring, and that i am more than a little concerned about not messing something up, my question is simply this- if all i am looking for is for these newly added side markers to blink with the turn signals, do i understand that i simply:
- go to any available ground with the ground wire coming off the side marker?
- tap into the factory turn signal wire with the other lead coming off the side marker? (anyone know what color the wire is for the blinkers on a '98 mystique?)

thanks for the courage! lakeside

what are all the options to run side markers on the SVT? I recall the Audi A4 could be used however is there any kind? What I want is Clear lens, amber bulb. However I don't want the amber bulb to be seen through the lens. (not sure if the A4 is like this or not)

I saw the other night a Passat that had the kind I'm looking for. It looked like it had a little round chrome piece over the bulb to cover it so it doesn't show. Perhaps a reflector or something.

Anyone know if that kind can be used or another kind that fits what I want?

Thanx

If you haven't purchased yet, BAT has clear, smoked, and orange. You can wire them 3 ways:
1) On with running lights/NO blinker
Connect to ground/constant on power from parking light
2) NO running lights/WITH blinker
Connect to ground/turn signal power
3) On with running lights/WITH blinker
Connect to both power wires/NO ground
Run one wire to one power and run the other wire to other power.

can't say that i know "all" the options.....

found mine on ebay. they are much as you describe-

ie, clear lens, etc. the big plus for me was that this particular model mimics the oval ls badge on the front fender of my mystique!

still looking for re-assurance re the wiring up of these!

anybody........????? lakeside

i used A6 markers. then i tinted them with vht niteshades spray tail light tint. i am using a clear bulb instead of the amber, cause the amber looked weird with the tint. i like how they blend in, until they are lit.

ya but these are weird oval shape.

I'm looking for the squarish/rectanglish shape. Something that resembles the size and shape of the 24V emblem on the side. This shape would flow better and make it look not out of place i.e stock looking.

WTF lets try this again. Those bat ones are a wierd oval shape though.

I want something more squarish/rectanglish that resembles the 24V emblem on the side. This shape would look more stock and flow better IMO i.e look like it belongs there

P.S. do the 24V emblems come off w/ fishing line or are the screwed on from the back? Also does it leave a hole in the fender or is it just a sticker type emblem. lastly, does any drilling of the body have to be done or do you just pop in the side marker and go?

I found some Series 7 clear rectangular shaped side markers at Pep Boys, part #40255277. They came with some wild LED multi color lights that I removed. I picked up pre-wired side light bulb holders & bulbs for a Jetta at the local VW dealer and they slide right into the Pep Boys side markers with a little modification. I did have to open up the holes under the badge somewhat for the light to slide in to the body. I wired up the side lights per the CEG sidelight wire guide and it works great. The sidelights come on dim when the parking lights are on then blink bright when the blinkers are turned on.

can you snap some pics of what the packaging looks like from Pep Boys for reference. What kind of modification to the VW housing needed for it to work...im kinda confused as it sounds like you bought the same parts twice...once at Pep Boys and once at VW. Also sme pics of how they look on you car would be great.
