according to mapquest, traveling up to I-80 is faster than I-70. its also an 18 hour drive (again, according to mapquest, so probably 15 or 16 hours). here are my options:

1. leave at 2 or 3 in the morning to get there by 6 at night
2. drive halfway and stay at one of YOUR houses. . . .

could anyone put me up for a night that lives close (45 min or less) to I-80? someone who preferably has a 10 hour or less drive to SZ.

im a road warrior, but i can only push myself so hard. i would also like to arrive at SZ in the 6ish pm area to meet everyone. if thats not cool, no doz and red bull will be my best friend. its just not that safe. . . .

i am flexible, and can arrive whenever you would like. i am also willing to leave anytime in the morning the next day. i would plan on arriving the day before SZ starts.

hey, its just one more to caravan!

lastly, im not 100% sure what my plans are, because i will be working up until the day i leave. im just trying to open up some options.

thanks!

You can do it....I have driven 24 hours straight before.....on my trip to the Dragon I started driving at 12 midnight and drove until we got to Tennessee at 6 pm.

I was talking a different trip.....the time I drove 24 hours is when I drove from Monterry, Mexico to Chicago.

well, regardless, i think i may stop in des moines. its about half way, and then i can caravan with all of you. that is, unless buckshot pulls his trailer slower than 80. . . .

if someone could let me know what a good exit would be to stop at to accomplish this, let me know.

Sorry man, I try not pulling at over 75 just for safety's sake of the other drivers should this thing start to whip on me. As far as getting off anywhere, we usually meet up in Altoona for the caravan and there are some hotels right there.

Thanks,
Rick

My attendance at Spring Zing is uncertain and even bordering on unlikely, and I may be in the process of moving at that time, or I would invite you to stay here. But if I am going, I'd catch you on your way there and we can go half on that hotel in Des Moines. I'm going to try to avoid leaving at 3:30 am again.

That would suck if you can't make it Dave but I know firsthand how things can get in the way.

What, you didn't like driving across Iowa in the dark? LOL That drive sucks.

Rick

Well that drive sucks in bright daylight also. But I left home around 3:30am and we arrived in Detroit at 7, maybe closer to 8pm. Obviously we weren't driving the whole time but regardless, I didn't recover from that.

yeah i hear you about fast trailering buckshot. coming from florida ive done my share of that (23 foot fishing boat, with trailer around 5000lbs. not always fun). 70-75 is about the max, safely. ive seen plenty of trailers swerving all over the place behind the tow vehicle, and somehow the driver is still cruising along like nothings wrong . i hate stupid people like that.

i would stick with ya anyway, cause going as a group is more fun.

davo, hope you can make it. i would definitely be down for sharing a hotel 1/2 way if you are able to go.

as for driving in the dark, i just ordered some HIDs so im not to worried about it being "dark"
