Hey,
I am thinking about putting my snow tires on Ebay (Michelin Arctic Alpine in classifieds if anyone is interested) Question is - any idea what is the best way to ship tires and how much it will cost ?

Probably UPS. I think the Tirerack got my tires here for about $70.

Fedex or UPS ground. Make sure they're clean, and just tape the address to the tire wrapping it around a section. No other packaging is required, as they are pretty much indestructable. You might also want to look at DHL...as they were cheaper than the others on several things I've shipped.
Also...tirerack to me was $33...

Rough rule of thumb, ship one per box or individually as above will get you the best rates. Approximately $12 per tire is typical via UPS.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

FedEd Ground was 1/2 the price of UPS when I shipped my snows mounted on wheels this fall. Look for Airborne Express coupons in OfficeMax ads (IIRC, could be one of the other chains) to save up to 50% on shipping.

Often, packaging two tires (not wheels) together will be cheaper as they go by weight.
Fed Ex Ground gets my vote!

That's exactly how the tire retailers do it. (tirerack, discounttire, etc)
I normally paid about $40 to have 4 tires shipped the last several times I bought tires.
I used to be a big Fed Ex believer but their quality has dropped off a ton over the last 3-4 years. UPS does just as good a job now if not actually better overall and they are normally cheaper. Fed Ex has been bringing their prices down some as of late.

I picked up a package for a friend who wasn't around, the tag on the door said "Airborne Express", and I picked it up at the building that had the same sign, but the two vans they had (pulled that package out of one of em) were DHL... So I'm thinking DHL bought them out, or are the same company with a different name. I had never heard of DHL before moving out here.

DHL did buy Airborne...
I found I was paying $26 for one tire, $38 for two shipping UPS ground about 500 miles.
If you box... you will save $10 on special handling fees.

It's not the same when you buy tires - all companies like tirerack got huge discounts on shipping.
