How do the rebate processors know if you are the first owner of the item or not? That does not make any sense. As long as you have the upc and the rebate receipt, its fine.
When I worked at Best Buy we would keep the UPC and all that stuff in a flie for all the disply stuff. HP or any other company doesn't care if the computer was a floor model because the rebate was never used, the UPC and barcodes were never used for anything dealing with them. We never sold the floor model if the item was still active and/or we were getting more. The reason was that if we sell the floor model we still need to open another new system and replace the flooor model and loose money on two new items to being floor models rather than one floor and one new. Also those guys don't make nearly enough and every jackass who came in with an axe to grind just told me I should make the sale harder. Everyone who gave me a hard time I would do all the BS the managers told me to like sell everything under the sun.
