Well perhaps Circuit City operates differently that Office Depot does. At Office Depot, they dont purchase it to begin with. They just open the box and put it on the shelf. The store never "buys" the product, therefore, the customer who buys it is the first owner. I dont know why any other place would do anything differetly. Seems like a waste for the customer.
BTW, i work at office depot once a week. When i sell an "ex-demo" they always get their rebates so I do know first hand.

What office depot do u work at? im lead tech at store 15. At this store we arent allowed to sell displays until they arent active. The only reason we will sell a demo is if the customer is really nice and we feel like it. But when people start acting out then we wont help them out.

I was a manager at staples back when i was 18. We were allowed to sell the demos.
If it was an active item, we just had to put a new one back out there from our next stock order. If it was discontinued, then who cares if we sell it.
All, demo's WERE NOT sold to the store, so we still had to save all the software and boxes that came with it. Customers could still get rebates becasue of this.
I do not know of one store in my area (office max, Office Depot, or Staples) that does it diffrently. Turns out maybe CC does it diffrently.
But the local CC here, has the same policy as my old job does.
Well good luck.

pigeon.....i just spoke to my roommate who works at circuit city and he says that the company policy will allow them to sell you the display. it sounds like they either had their heads stuck where the sun doesn't shine or they were trying to save it for someone.
fwiw-he also said that the display models are cheaper(obviously) so maybe that had something to do with it as well.

Circuit City, Best Buy, CompUSA...I can't really say I like any of them. It seems like the consumer electronics retail industry is just in the crapper when it comes to service and selection nowadays, at least when it comes to the stuff I like.

How do the rebate processors know if you are the first owner of the item or not? That does not make any sense. As long as you have the upc and the rebate receipt, its fine.
When I worked at Best Buy we would keep the UPC and all that stuff in a flie for all the disply stuff. HP or any other company doesn't care if the computer was a floor model because the rebate was never used, the UPC and barcodes were never used for anything dealing with them. We never sold the floor model if the item was still active and/or we were getting more. The reason was that if we sell the floor model we still need to open another new system and replace the flooor model and loose money on two new items to being floor models rather than one floor and one new. Also those guys don't make nearly enough and every jackass who came in with an axe to grind just told me I should make the sale harder. Everyone who gave me a hard time I would do all the BS the managers told me to like sell everything under the sun.

Absolute BS if you ask me, I think they were just holding it for someone who works there. Anyone here work for these bunch of a$$ clowns and want to tell me if this is BS or true?
Scott
Actually I work for these a$$ clowns and it is absolutely correct that they cannot sell the floor model if (A) it is in the display ad, (B) if more are on a truck coming to the store. Why would we want to sell you the display model at discount and lose money, when we would just have to open another one up. If you were willing to buy it at full cost, they should've let you buy it, because they are not taking a hit.

well there is a return policy.Which i believe is 14 days for them. There are policies that they have to follow. So yea 30 days is out of their hands. They cant change whats written on paper, if you have problems with something you bought then take it up with the manufacturer who gives you the warranty not the place that just sells them. Honestly not buying the extended on most electronics is well worth it.
