Also rebates and special pricing generally tend to apply only to 'new' items.
Items that are either 'open box' or 'ex-demo' are generally not applicable for rebates as YOU are not the first owner of the NEW system. You will also find that many places are not willing to sell these types of units straight from the floor as they incurr and absolute nightmare with warranties and liabilities. It's much better to offer them either in-house or submit them for e-bay or similar type sales.
On to another aspect of this. The special pricing is going to be a manufacturer's rebate, it's extremely rare that a store will rebate products themselves nowadays. Seeing as this rebate is from the manufacturer, it only applies to products received by the store for the rebate period (instant rebate), or received and sold during the period for mail-in rebates. If the rebate ends before they are restocked then there is a probability that the new systems will not have rebates applied to them. If the store is forced to hold their pricing on this, then they will lose money.
Basically ... never expect to be able to purchase the display/demo models.
Store managers are generally young ... I guess you must still be getting used to using stores.
Also don't cry because you don't know the way that business works ... it makes you look stupid
