Well when I did the work I found it easier to remove the entire LIM and work on it on my bench than leaving the rails in the engine compartment.
You can easily remove the entire LIM from the engine without having to disconnect the fuel rail from the fuel line(s). I've removed and cleaned my UIM and LIM that way several times now.
