Okay, I'm not driving a tour but the cougar is not that different in handling. I have tried a number of different tires and thought my findings might be of help. All my choices were in the Max or Ultra High Performance Summer groups.
Sumitomo HTR II 225/40/18s were an interesting tire but weren't anywhere near as good as the Bridgestone S-02s that replaced them (same size).
The S-02's were replaced by the newer S-03 tire in a 225/45/17 rear and 215/45/17 front combination that I still run in SOLO II events.
I did try some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-DS 225/35/18s that handle very well in wet conditions but didn't have the side wall strength for all out track running. Street handling and road noise levels were good but the set was distroyed by a chuckhole before I was able to put them to much of a test.
Now I have a set of BFGoodrich tires (g-Force T/A KDW 2) that I plan on testing with the 18's later this spring. They have the a simular tread pattern to the Bridgeston S-02 but are quite a bit less expensive.. So I'll try the S-02 225/40/18 S-02s on the back and the g-Force 215/40/18s on the front.
Getting the right tire for the wheel size can be a problem with the Max and Ultra High performance Summer tires..Living in northern California lets me run summer tires all year around.
