No. The 215/50 has noticeably less sidewall. (and is shorter)
The 205/55 compares in sidewall & height to a 225/50 but is over 1" narrower.
If your choice is between 215/50 or 205/55 then choose 215/50 for handling & 205/55 for comfort.
For more tire selection and better performance try 225/50 but you may have rubbing issues on the earlier models.
Yeah, my mistake :-p i was flipping through the miata tire calulator at work and I was looking at the 225. I think I'll look at the tires reccommended in both 215/50 and 205/55 and see what is affordable - thanks for the advice everyone, i'm getting ancy for spring now! well, not really- last night i was in the empty parking lot at the (huge) king of prussia mall sliding my parents subaru in the snow. Next time i need to get my dads 4motion passat
