I wrapped the mild steel headers on my mustang drove it that way for 8 months and no rust through. Sure the wrap acts like a catalyst and speeds up the process of the corrosion, but it probably depends on the salt on the road. I live in Oregon so no salt on the roads here.

You should only wrap stainless steel.
I have the stock manifold/cat wrapped and you can see signs of deterioration after just 8 months, I will have to replace both in the next few months (makes for a great excuse).

I never knew the zxtuner had a contour selection for that header. The header was originally made and test fitted on a cougar...I guess they found out it would fit later on so they added it in.

they should make a pre98 version though...

not sure of the differences between mondeo and contour, but the cougar header from zxtuner.com does fit on my 1994 mk1 mondeo. in the UK we have mk1 mondeo up to 1996, then mk2 mondeo from 1996 - 2000.

so i assume the pre-98 contour is the same underneath as our mk1 pre-96 mondeos?

why not ask zxtuner to see if it will fit your pre-98, the chances are it will but might only need minor modding to fit.

the only thing that is needed is to weld a bung for the EGR.

I guess an exhaust shop could do that for pretty cheap though.
