Afganistan is a worst case senerio with its intractable mountainous terrain and isolated tribal culture that is ideal to hide bad guys. Just as the Russians. We have about 7X the manpower in Iraq c/w Afganistan and foriegn jihaddists are not ness as welcome by Iraqi's who are certainly becoming tired of the incessant murder of there citizens by foriegners.
Another way one could look at this info is that perhaps Iraq is becoming popular to jihaddits mainly because "good ol" Afganistan, being further down the road to democracy, is in point of fact becoming LESS hospitable to "would be jihaddists". This would predict that as democracy takes finally hold in Iraq the same will occur there..and the bad guys are forced to move again...
