As i'm approaching 100K on my car I was curious how long I can expect the engine/atx transmission to last?

Of us Zetec owners, what's the highest mileage you've gotten on these 2.0's???

im about to hit 110K (my first 10K miles on the car). The Zetec is a great engine, very strong, it could easily go to 200K miles with proper maitenence and easy driving. The transmission on the other hand... be good to it and it will be good to you... You could probibly get 150K+ out of it.

I don't know about the 150k + out of the ATX, mine was driven mostly freeway when I got it and the ATX was shot with 146k miles. Don't know about the maintenace of it prior to my owning it, but the atx fluid was clean. Oil was perfect so was the coolant, powersteering, ect. So it looked like she took care of the car.

My Zetek died at 169,000. Those we not highway miles either. Back and forth to work 5 years straight since I have had her and no problems, started everyday till I lost my headgasket and toasted the engine. Saving $$ to put a Junkyard engine in it to see how much more I can get out of it. Tranny was fine before it happened, I had an occasional O/D light flashing and a rough shift for a while but it always seemed to pass. I think it was a bad sensor. Like said in the previous post, if you take care of them (routine maint) they will last a long time. I miss my tour, cant wait to get her fixed.

My Zetec just cracked 120K, and neither the engine or the transmission show any sign of letting up. This car has been great to me, for the most part.

I drove my old Zetec from 114K miles with very, VERY poor maintainance from previous owner(s)... was also a rental to begin with, so just imagine. Had a knock when I got it, slowly was getting worse when I traded it in at a few miles short of 160K. I'm sure I could have got 200K no doubt.

In the 2 years and 46K miles I had it... I delivered pizza with it, 2 trips (and back) to the Texoma area (Lawton, OK and Wichita Falls, TX... actually lived in Wichita Falls for almost a year), one way to Montana, once to Chicago and back, twice to Des Moines and back, numerous trips to towns closer to there (Iowa City, Davenport, Dubuque, etc.). I did nothing but drive around. Also the cheapest car I've had to maintain. Only thing that was real bad on it was the tranny which overheated if I hot rodded it at highway speeds...

EDIT: Actually, I sure with I kept that old Contour... sure wouldn't be in the $ mess I'm in now... Only $80/month for liability and it was good to go.

Approaching 130k on mine.......driven hard.....but maintained even harder. Tranny flush every 20-25k and installed a tranny cooler. Been running Mobil 1 since I got the car, and even installed a supercharger 10k ago.

cool. thanks, that gives me hope. Mine was just a rental/fleet car when I got it with 55K (I'm the third owner) and she has been almost problem free for me. I'm hoping it'll stay that way into the 100's. My last car, a 1990 Topaz, had 155K when I got rid of her, and it was still running a year after I sold it. Hope to get the same mileage out of this one
