Ok, I have a question that maybe some people have had similar problems with. 1998 Contour SE with the 2.5 V6 and automatic(no ABS or traction control) with 205/60/R15 Dunlop SP Sport A2's These tires on tirerack (fronts are new as of this summer, rears are half gone) (The folowing is on paved roads that have been plowed with a light layer of snow). When driving up hills there is no traction. I can understand that, having no snow tires on her. But on even the slightest incline i cant even get enough traction to get enough speed to make it up the roads. I barely touch the gas and just spin. I lift off the gas to let the wheels stop spinning and nothin. Even when i use second gear or use the brakes and gas slightly to prevent wheel spin all i do is spin. Its so frustrating. I have to almost take someone with me so they can get out and push. Any help or sugestions or others that have had similar experiences whould help very much. And there is no such thing as not driving up the hills here because thats all there is. Thank you in advance.

Might try dropping the pressure a little. If you've got them up to 40 psi for summer spirited driving they going to be a little hard to flex enough for traction in this cold weather. Beyond that it sounds like just crappy tires.

I also forgot to mention that my car seems to ride a bit low in front. Do most people have a noticeable height difference between the front and the rear on thier tours? Ive had the springs in back replaced because they were broken. Could the front be the same? And could this be part of the problem? Thanks again

actually...the front should look almost ready for 4 wheeling.

Ahhh found your problem.
I ran with those for tires for 2 years (2 sets) and they are only ok in snow. Replaced this summer tells people nothing. If I replace tires in the summer I would have about 20,000 miles on them by now.

I always though you were better off running a higher pressure in the winter, giving you a smaller contact area and more pressure on what does contact the ground.
Aren't skinny (width) tires better in the snow??
Now in the summer, if all you're after is grip you usually run them a little low (More contact area, better grip because the rubber grips the pavement) If its trying to grip snow/slush you want it to have more pressure, forcing the snow/slush out of the contact path.
I could be wrong though, in which case, correct me!
