Or maybe there is a car that was stole that matches your. So they took your plate so they wouldn't get spotted. I would report it to the cops. One of my friends stole a car and swapped the plates and drove it for almost 6 months before he ditched the car.

The cops said they couldn't do anything unless I actually saw someone do it and they said i need to go get a new plate.

Then report it to the DMV when you get a new plate. That way if someone is using it they won't get away with it.
