I am the "dolt" as you so sweetly put it, that suggested Wal-Mart and its marketing policies are ruining America. They have a corporate philosophy of bullying that is unlike any other mass merchandiser. As I stated in my earlier post, my father was a city councilman during a time when Wal-mart was wanting to come into our community. Wal-Mart immediately demanded tax abatements, free utility extensions, free street upgrades, etc. When the city told them NO, they would have to pay their way like any other business, Wal-Mart went on a negative ad campaign, putting ads in the local papers, saying that the city fathers were against progress and against providing competition in shopping, etc. In the end, Wal-Mart won out. They put K-Mart and TG&Y out of business, and those two abandoned big-box stores are still standing in ruin. Then this year, Wal-Mart built a new SuperCenter, and abandoned their own store. Now we have THREE empty big box buildings in a town of 10,000.
The one good thing I'll say about Wal-Mart is that all the crazies shop there, making more space in the parking lots and aisles of the store I patronize!
