The OEM axle nut (or locking spindle nut) is a ONE TIME USE only nut.. it is three plates held within a metal clasp and releasing the pretentioned weight off of these will likely cause failure holding at a later time. They "can" be re-used, but I wouldn't recommend it. Pick one up for 2.50 at napa, or autozone.
