I have this issue with my new 2005 Fukus - it is impossible (almost) to get into gear when cold (-25 celcius and colder). After driving for 10-15 minutes it becomes useable.
I belive Ford is using a Synthetic manual trans fluid in the 2005's.
As long as you already have the Ford synthetic fluid already in it, before changing fluid try adding 2oz (1/2 bottle) of Ford friction modifier. That is what I have in my car at the moment and it works quite well.
