Hey - I was just wondering if anyone,

a) has a set of winter tires they'd like to sell
b) knows where you can pick up a set of winter tires
c) has steelies that they'd like to get rid of

After driving from London to Kingston during the winter storm last week, i think this is a much needed investment

btw, i'm not sure if the bolt patterns are the same for all contours - mine is a 1995 lx v6 - any one know which cars have comperable bolt patterns?

You can interchange your rims with early Saab and the tempo topaz models off the top of my head. I'm sure you could get a set of steelies from the wrecking yard s for cheap. Especially from Tempo's or Tapaz's as they are a dime a dozen in the bone yards. The LX had 15" tires stock IIRC however 14" rims would be just as good and cheaper for the winter rubber. You just need to use a taller profile tire for 14" rims. Otherwise keep an eye on the classifeids as there are often rims and tires that come up for sale in Michigan.

You could also try Ford Focus rims. As long as you have the 4x108 bolt pattern, you should be okay. Focus used to have 14-inch steel rims, but you can now get them in 15-inch steel rims as well.

Just maintain the "plus sizing". For Contours and Mystiques, I don't believe there are any fitment issues. The standard rule of thumb is going to the base tire size. The Contour/Mystique base wheel size is 185/70R14, just like the Tempo/Topaz.

If you're in Toronto, I'd suggest getting a hold of Dave at Steelcase Tires N Mags (905) 479-8884 up in Markham. The one thing is that winter tire stock is very low, if not, all sold out already.

All I can say is DO NOT run BFGoodrich GForce KDW's that come stock on an SVT Contour, unless you like to get stuck often .

I think I will be buying snow tires very soon as well. Usually do not need them in Windsor, but for some reason, the snow decided to visit more often this year.

I never really thought they made that much difference, but I always had snows on. Recently I've been driving my wife's car in the snow ... holy crap !!! It's like night and day at times. Best investment I made so far!

This is true, however i'm expecting to get at least one more season out of "Darlene", so I figure even if i don't use it much this season, I can use them at least once more next.

I've been looking on ebay for stuff however most of the stuff is down in the US and the shipping is going to kill you to bring it up

how much are rubbers going to run?

It really depends on what brand and whether you get a traditional winter tire or performance winter tire.

If you're going to be driving on the 401 or other highways (say >75%), you should look into a performance winter tire. They trade off some winter traction for more stability at higher speeds. Otherwise, any normal winter tire should do.

I don't see winter tires going past $125 (that being the top end line) per tire. For the 185/70R14, I'm going to assume you'll hit the $100 target per tire. Although, retailers might want more because it's the prime winter season.
