I bought a SS SHO Ypipe from a guy off the internet. He claims it was brand new and that it came with his car, but was never installed. So I bought it for $200 shipped.(Which I liked very much)

I recieved it today and inspected it and just figured I'd ask a few questions.

This is the whole kit

Side view of the flex pipe, is it supposed to be welded like that?

Here is a shot of the inner walls of the flex pipe. Will that lip from the weld hurt performance?

Here's a shot of some sort of weld on the short downpipe header.

Here's a shot of the inside of that weld its very rough and I just didn't think it should be like that.

Sorry for all the pictures but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't being over critical.

What should I do?

PS: Sorry for the crappy pictures

Clamps the first pictures shows them all in the bag.

But I guess the best way would to get it all welded together.

From the first pic it seems like you've got everything that comes with the kit from ShoShop (I just installed mine)...but in my opinion that weld on the flexpipe looks like it may be a re-weld. That flexpipe also looks like it may be shorter than the one SS supplied me. hold on...

I've got one here right out of the box and the flexpipe has 4 and 1/2 inches of "flex material". Also its got the word JAGCO on it and nothing else. Check it out, but that may be a different flexpipe that was welded in.

Thanks....I was thinking the same thing on the flex pipe it does look shorter than what I have seen in pictures, not really sure that matters? Also mine says JAGCO on it as well. I think they compensated for the length difference in the flex by adding a onger pipe...

The weld does look like its been rewelded and the lip inside concerns me. I wonder if I can get that smoothed out. I really can't see how much it sticks out since its so far down there.

The guy I bought it from didn't seem to performance oriented so I don't think he even knew. But I will return it to him if I can't get something satisfactory done.

PS: I'm also worried about the deep grooves on the downpipe.

Any suggestions.

Anyone know if I can have the pipes smoothed out by an exhaust shop?

I couldn't tell you about the exhaust shop as I have little experience with them...but you could probably do a satisfactory job with a Dremel and a grinding wheel!

I think you're being a little too cautious about the y-pipe. It looks brand new to me, and it's a newer model, because the one that I got used (and mounted) didn't look that clean when I got it, and mine came from a friend of mine. Anyways, I think the weld on the short pipe is normal, because I don't think you can get such a short, 90 degree bend without some cutting and welding. Also, the slight bump from the mating and welding of the pipes is nothing in comparison to the factory y-pipe, and how the two head pipes crush down into each other to meet as one.

Besides, 200 bucks for a 400 dollar pipe is pretty good. Is it SS?

just fyi (not trying to be argumentative)...the bend IS rough compared to the two y-pipes that I've seen in the last two weeks (installed one and selling another)...and the flexpipe does seem to be smaller. It does have some dissimilarities from the one that I received from SS just last week.

just my final opinion--take it as you will jboekl
