It's also fair to say that what Ford is in pretty bad shape as of late and is only getting worse. More of the same thing isn't going to save Ford. Ford doesn't need the Fusion to attract would-be Taurus drivers, it needs the Fusion to attract would-be Altima drivers. "Decent for a Ford" doesn't cut it, it needs to be "Best in Class".

Not that the fusion isn't worse.

Well... the interior is too bland... that head unit is just AWFUL! and the overly podded gauges, and the general lack of flow and texture...
The exterior is too chunky and chromy to be attactive... take the chrome away and it's boring.
Ford needs to take good chances with its styling if it's going to get anywhere... and the Mercury and Lincoln versions need different body/door panels to be in the game.
All three versions of the Mazda6 use a different back door.

If you want an Infinity, and you want to pay for it buy one. If Volvo design quality is where it's at, again, pay for it.
Why do people compare a Ford to a BMW, Infinity, Volvo or an Acura? Completely differnt classes of cars, with different price points.
The old adage works here: You get what you pay for.
Finally, Logan, how can you complain about the 'box look' yet list an Evo as a point of interest?

It looks like an overweight Focus.

At least they didn't use any of that disgusting silver-colored plastic a lot of the other manufacturers (sp) use.

And I did. I got into a bone stock G35 6MT, out of a SVT Contour, so I think I'm qualified to respond. I'd say that the Fusion fully loaded will not be that much less than what I paid for the G35 (give or take a few grand).
My complaint is that Ford is now essentially a coach builder. They allow Volvo and Mazda to do all of the engine design and chassis development. Then they slap on a body that's so watered down from the concept car:
Ford is now basically Buick, getting vanilla hand me downs from it's sister companies. Blah.

NO! Rear of the Fusion looks very Falconesque with a little Sable. I think the car looks fine. I like the 6 better though. I'll like the 6 even more when they announce the Fusion won't come with a manual.

i actually like it. the front grille is...different. but the interior is definitely a step up from the Focus. looks simple and (dare i say) classy. interesting to see where they price this one.
certainly looks more promising than the hunk of junk the 500 turned out to be.
one major criticism for me: where is the gated shifter/auto-stick feature??? if you can get that on a Scion, there is no reason Ford shouldn't include on this one.

Horrid IMHO, Simply horrid. I could live with the gauges, but the rest of the interior is dull and dated. Exterior is terrible. Trunk is too raised, tail chrome wraps the car waaaaaay too much, the front grille is a tad too large, and the duel exhaust is VERY out of place with that rear bumper. Looks like a "luxury Focus".
