I am looking to free up the breathing of my engine to gain as much HP and plan on using a larger TB and MAF to go with my Monster Flow and BAT pipe on the front end, but am uncertain about the exhaust If you were to make a single modification to your exhaust system, $ no object, which would it be. I have an SVT with the resonator replaced by a 2.5" straight thru .. Which of the following do you guys recommend and why? High Flow Cat Cat back exhaust Headers ( Problematic, I live in Ca. with SMOG II) Mufflers other??? thanks jj

I would say MSD headers. They come with headers and Y-pipe for $600.

If you don't care about price
Buy a Bassani or Brullen SS exhaust
The cheap mod
Mystery Mod - no you won't pass with headers!

I agree with Icey Mike, but given your smog testing situation you may need to just get a Y-pipe and retain the pre-cats. If you're interested in HP, a clean y-pipe will provide a nice benefit. The SHO design uses a dual inlet main cat which flows a little better than the stock cat. You've already eliminated the other big restriction by taking out the resonator.

Money no object, SMOG issues: I say clean up your stock ypipe and get a Brullen exhaust.

Gentlemen: Thanks for the input .. pretty much same results I expected. As far as headers go, CARB says there is a "Manufacturers Catalog of approved Parts" out there somewhere, but spent 6 hours on the net searching CARB and ARB web sites and found nothing .. the implication was that there are approved parts for the 'Tour in CA, just can't find a listing .. ? thanks again jj

The MSDS hedders should pass emissions, right? Since it has the pre cat bypass thingy that basically fools the computer, or am I wrong. Do emissions places check for precats? Mike

Can you put the exhaust manifold heat shield back on and try to fool the emmission people?
