This is the ONE thing I dislike about my car... I've had this problem on and off since I've had it. I changed the fluid (Mobil1 ATF + Ford friction modifier) and it still happens. SOMETIMES if I take the car out of gear and rev it a few times I can slip it into gear. Lately though, not even that has worked and I get stuck in the middle of a parking lot isle (reversed out but can't put it in 1st). At those times, if I can't get it into 2nd or 3rd, the only thing I can think of to get moving is shut the car down so that I can shift. Then I can start back up and drive off and everything is fine (unless of course it happens when I stop at a stop light ).

Of course when I took it to the dealership under warranty (now at 70K miles) they said that they "couldn't find the problem" so there was nothing they could do. If it's not an issue with changing old fluid, what could it be?

Lately, I've been wondering if there are any issues with cable alignment. If the shifter cables got stuck somehow, could that be what is keeping it from going into gear?
