To those of you that have replaced your Y Pipe with the after market SHO or MSDS setups what are the physical differences of the pipes compared to the stock Y pipe. Other than the restriction where the two pipes come together before the main cat. Things like the dia of the pipes etc..

Thanks,
Dave

Might want to check the vendor web sites. I think they list the specs for their tubing and such.

MSDS uses the stock "tuned" 180 degree bend & has a 2.5" outlet.
It dumps to the front on the stock cat or custom catback.

SHOShop is a direct downpipe to either a 2 in 1 cat or straight spacer pipe and a 2.25" outlet (IIRC it's 2.25")
It dumps to the stock cat-back location.

The MSDS Y-pipe is only available when buying the matched header set.

Let me see...

The MSDS one is ONLY available when buying the matched headers... :p

SHOShop one is sold seperately.

Do you want headers? Buy the MSDS set.
IMO it is the better Y-pipe.

Do you want a much better y-pipe then stock & do you have a chip? Then buy the SHOShop one.
It makes it's best results when used with a chip.
Beware the flexjoint on the SHOShop offroad pipes. Multiple failures to date.

I have the Sho Shop pipe w/ high flow cat, and am getting ready to replace it with either Yo Dude pipe and exhaust, or one from Performance Ford.
The Sho pipe drones something fierce!
Hope this helps.

Unique alright. confused

Equal length does not always mean better performance. Since the exhaust will slow down every time it changes directions the length would not need to be equal in order to equate equal flow and back pressure for each bank.

4 seperate "tuners" found a 180 degree bend to be the ideal point. Ford back when they designed it, Mazda for their (New model - 6?) 3L HE, MSDSInc for their tuned headers (dyno tested), and CTA in dyno testing.
Now they may not have the ideal point, but it's odd they would all come to the same conclusion then...

Now perhaps if you throw a custom chip in the mix???

Any Y-pipe without a cat will be susceptible to drone & rasp. Not to mention you ARE NOT running a resonator. Which is used to control drone & rasp!!!
