Let me also say that the stock cat has a nice 3" opening ( perfect match for 3" collector on MSDS Y or if you modify your stock Y). The inside looks virtually the same as a Catco 3" which I bout but decide not to install as it looked the same when I had it all apart. Unless you are going to a trick metal matric cat or something I dont think any ceramic brick aftermarket cats are likly to be better than stock. Probably is a gain going to straight pipe (but not gutting cat).

My cat started working properly again, so I did not follow up on this to confirm that the part number was the same.
BTW, i just had my cat replaced free under emissions waranty 8/80

Thanks,
You guys confirmed what I thought. It will be very easy to get rid of the 2" restriction from the cat to the flange. I looked again tonight when I got home from work and there is at least 1" of 2.25 inch pipe coming out of the cat before it gets necked down to 2". I can weld the new 2.25 pipe and flange up this weekend. I might even fix the y pipe and do the Mystery Mod as well since I'm going to be under the car anyway.
