At 2800 lbs, it should be in the same league as the Miata and I wouldn't be surprised to see a Sky Redline or Red Skyline or something... 
The miata is not that heavy yet. Even the Mazdaspeed MX-5 is only 2540 pounds (and that is the most a miata have ever weighed) and from what I have been reading they are trying to keep the NC under that weight
I saw the pontiac version of that car at the D.C. Auto show and I will be keeping my eye on it for when it comes out.
