But they only wanted to give me $1200 for my car!
What a crock! I know my car has high milage, but that's just an insult. I normally wouldn't have tried to trade it, but I still owe $4500 on the Tour. It was an 01 Miata with only 40k on the odometer.

You're doing good to get salvage price on a Contour thesedays. I got a whopping $750 for my Contour which had a brand new long-block (a $4,500 warrantied repair) with less than 2000 miles on it in it and I had to talk them up to get that much.

That's why you sell it yourself.

I agree with Todd, Dealers blow. I bought my car for 1750... and I bet I could sell it today for the same price.. if not MORE, im sure another kid would buy it.

Yeah, but I'd have been lucky to sell my car for an extra $750-1000. The time and effort it would take for me to sell it myself is worth far more to me than that.

And the biggest reason why I wouldn't sell it myself is that I had a lot of negative equity in it and I needed to roll that into the new Mazda3.

An extra $1000 for calling up the local paper or Auto Trader. You must make mad bank.

Well, I wouldn't say "mad bank", but about that every 2 days, yes. And there'd be a lot more than just calling Auto Trader. There'd be a bunch of people calling to come look at it, bunch of people wanting test drives, people would want to haggle. I'm usually only home one day a week, I don't want to spend that time dealing with that crap.

If you're lucky. There are many owners around here who would give much to have "a bunch of people" actually bother to look at their car.

That's another thing. I don't want to sit on the car for God knows how long waiting for it to sell making payments and keeping it roadworthy for test-drives.

Yeah, I lost $750 or so -- but it saved me a bunch of trouble; and when you're rolling in negative equity into a $20,000 car, an extra $750 adds up to about $15/month that I pay now to have avoided the aggravation of selling the 'Tour myself.

Really??? Wow I was looking into upgrading my mystique to a 00 and it was going for $6995. The dealer offered me $3500 trade in on my white 98 mystique. Maybe because I bought it from him and it was a rental car before I bought it...
