The reason Monster Cable is successful is for one, they were probably the pioneer in better cables for most of the 80's. Then at some point, they stopped and realized they could sell poop for $9.99 at Best Buy and make a healthy profit.

Brian, maybe your not hearing us.....Now again, their products are really not the problem, its the outrageous price inflation. This is why I say, I'll send you my $35 cable, you compare it to the Monster $120 cable, show it to your customers. Let them see if they can find where the extra $85 is? Oh that's right, in the hands of lawyers......they are free with every cable purchase.

Your mentality of Monster Cable is very similar to one of my friends...Monster has to be better be cause it costs more. I showed him my cable, told him the price, he was pretty speechless....

Now in regards to your advertising/marketing notion. Businesses are here for one reason, to make a profit. Consumers accept this, but when an item is sold beyond its fair market value (FMV) due to misguided marketing that draws customers in with no real relevance (a look at Monsters site and you will see no real spec significant detail about an items description) The terms they use to describe standard PE dielectric is like poetry, you have to read it twice to see if they are really talking about wire.....

Back to FMV, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, they do not manufacture anything so they can not be compared to Monster Cable. Those companies sell at a level they believe they can sell products, usually slightly under MSRP which is dictated by the manufacture (Monster) If Monster sets the MSRP at $119, the chains have to follow MAP pricing in most cases, meaning they can not advertise that item for less then MAP. So you get a price between MAP and MSRP dictated by the Manufacture (Monster)

This goes with every other manufacture of an electronic item and even cars. Ford dealers all pay the same for a car, yet some get creative with incentives and such to make deals with you. Comparing cellular service with Monster cable again is ridiculous, most services are within a few dollars of each other, are they making money, sure. But I can talk on my cell for unlimited time for 2 months and have change left over from $120. Which would you buy air time or a 3 foot cable?

Fast food, if Monster Cables were Wendy's the $0.99 menu would be $4.99 That's the kind of over inflation they sell...
