Actually it was not. Most theologians believe it was in the springtime. Christmas the holiday is celebrated when it is to overlap with and supercede the pagan celebrations of the winter solstice.

Anyway... this is Isreal, not the northern United States. The low part of the average temperatures is 41 degrees in January. Therefore, sheep could possibly be herded the full year there.

That said, I have not read Da Vinci Code... but as an English major, I have always rebelled against the excessive snobbery of those who define "literary" works. I did an analysis on Olivia Goldsmith's First Wives' Club (which the professor was impressed with) to prove my rebellious point.
